We'd like to move to Florida
We saved a lot of silver dollars since we got married back in 1925
Or was it 1927 when the kids started coming?
Well we did the best that we could
We raised them thru the thirties, in the forties
Did the best that we could
We're all alone now with the old worn out memories of us
A faded wedding picture
We'd like to move to Florida
But something ties us to this house
It's nice and warm in Florida

We hold each other's hand and wait for someone to call us on the phone
And say they wish we wouldn't go away from 28th street
They need to see us everyday
The kids we watched grow up and turn and run away
The fifties saw the last of them go
We couldn't help it if we just couldn't handle modern kids
We read a book that told us
The second generation would try to assimilate themselves
But oh we miss the harder days

I look at him. He looks at me
I see the boy I married
Long ago, way before the world got young and we got old
We thought we'd build a little family to hold by our side in sadness
That's the way it goes
We used to dream of Florida on a Sunday thru the Sullivan Show
And we're still young enough to drive out and see the kids
At least the kids who want to see us
We turn the television off
I'll sleep down here 'cause it's too hard to climb the stairs
